Malick portrays a fatalistic perspective of a forbidden relationship through the progressive desensitization to violence. Kit is a classically manipulative sociopath who believes strongly in destiny. Holly loses herself into Kit’s vision of fate and living, taken advantage of for her youthful innocence into an unquestioning partner serving Kit’s whims. The eccentric, almost carnival-like music, further contradicts the macabre quality of the senseless killings and reflects Holly’s childish engrossment into this forbidden love. Easily one of the highest rated movies that I don’t think I can give a heart on this site.
