The Tuxedo (2004)

Placeholder until I think of a synopsis

The best way to describe The Tuxedo is delicious rubbish. It’s an incredibly campy spy parody that relies on body humor and racy innuendos for sufficient effect. Most of these gags work just fine, but some of the more suggestive jokes are cheap. Half the time, Del’s only operational purpose is to seduce men with her appearance. Jackie Chan, as usual, shines with his physical control and martial arts capabilities. Unfortunately, where he succeeds in his comfort zone, his performance falls apart with terrible acting otherwise. As a duo, I’m not convinced that they would make a good couple.

I can’t help but notice that a lot of the movie handwaves a bunch of BS through ridiculous spy technology, but that is also part of the charm. I’m not going to pretend like I didn’t enjoy this movie’s fantastical extravagance. The absurd capabilities of those tuxedos can feel inconsistent, but positively ridiculous. The pacing of the movie is overly feverish at times, and stuck in the mud at other times. It becomes even more salient when scenes start to be recycled, such as the final two party sequences.
